Reblog this to help a self-producing Black playwright
Although not being able to do Tulpa, or Anne&Me this year was a real blow, I still plan on producing it again in the future (probably next year). Since I’ve been granted more time to work on things, I can focus on creating a bigger budget, which will give me more freedom to create a fully realized production as opposed to something quick and dirty. I am also working on creating an anti-racism workshop that centers on viewing a performance of this piece.
I’m not doing a fundraising campaign for a while, but I do want more people to know about the play and why it’s important. You can find some basic information here, but if you have more questions, please feel free to send me an ask. I love talking about this play with people who are thoughtful and engaged, so I’m always looking forward to hearing from you.
I’m also about halfway through a one-act I’m calling The Secret Life of the Sassy Black Friend, which is about a Black woman who is just trying to get through her day without getting caught up in the fucked up drama of her White friends and colleagues.
There are other pieces that I’m still thinking about, including a thinly veiled Swan Queen retelling of something Shakespeare comedies like The Taming of the Shrew and Much Ado About Nothing.
Although money is always welcome, what would really help right now is for you to reblog this for your followers so that they can know that someone is out here making this sort of work and that it needs support.
Thank you so much for your support and encouragement. It really means a lot.
